Troubleshooting
Work through the problem in a simple order instead of changing random settings. Most issues come from access, permissions, configuration, or a connected service.
Start here
Read the exact error
Copy the exact Vanta or Discord error message. Small differences can point to completely different causes.
Check access
Make sure the account is signed in, has dashboard access, and has the Vanta role or permission needed for the feature.
Check the connection
If the problem involves Discord or ER:LC data, check that the integration is connected and Vanta is receiving current information.
Try the action again
After fixing the likely cause, retry the same action once. If it still fails, continue with the matching issue below.
Common problems
Vanta cannot see my Discord server
Check that Vanta is installed in the correct server and has the permissions needed for the feature.
A Discord role will not update
Check Manage Roles and make sure the role is below Vanta's highest role.
ER:LC live data is unavailable
Refresh the dashboard and check the ER:LC connection again.
Remote management is not working
Confirm the server owner completed the ER:LC authorisation step, then retry the action.
A dashboard link shows 404
Check that you are signed in, have access, and that the dashboard ID is correct.
Verification is not changing roles
Check the verification configuration, role IDs, bot role position, and verification flow.
A feature is missing
Check your dashboard role and permissions.
Whitelists are not enforcing
Check that the bot is online, ER:LC data is available, the rule matches the current resource, and the member has the required role.
When to contact support
If the problem remains, provide the feature, what you expected, what actually happened, and the exact error message. Do not send passwords, API keys, bot tokens, or other secrets.
