Discord
Vanta uses Discord for a lot of its day-to-day work. This guide covers the connection, bot setup, roles, logs and the permission issues you are most likely to run into.
Connect Discord
Start the connection
Connect the Discord server from the dashboard setup flow and select the community you want Vanta to manage.
Confirm the bot
Check that Vanta is present in the correct server and can access the resources required by the features you plan to use.
Bot permissions and role hierarchy
Check permissions
The bot needs appropriate Discord permissions for the features you use.
Check the role position
Discord will not let a bot manage roles above or equal to its highest role. Move the Vanta role above the roles it needs to manage.
Retry the action
After correcting Discord permissions or hierarchy, return to Vanta and test the original action again.
Logs and commands
Log channels, command permissions, and other Discord settings are configured separately from the basic connection. Make sure Vanta can view and send messages in any channels used for logging.
